Porsche 911 GT2 RS fastest road car on Circuit Zandvoort

Porsche has once again set a new lap record for street-legal cars. This time not on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, but on ‘our own’ Circuit Zandvoort.

If you are soon going to Circuit Zandvoort with your own car and you want to take a shot at the track record, then you have to come from a better home than before. Porsche has raised the bar with a 911 GT2 RS MR. None other than brand new two-time Porsche Supercup champion Larry ten Voorde clocked a time of 1:38.20 on the renovated circuit. His team GP Elite and Porsche affiliated Manthey Racing prepared a 911 GT2 RS for the record attempt. The 25-year-old driver from Enschede did not disappoint.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS with which the record was set is equipped with the so-called Manthey Performance Kit. This includes a modified chassis and braking system, a carbon fiber underbody, but also aerodynamic extras such as extra winglets on the front spoiler and around the front wheels. A new rear spoiler and modified diffuser also contribute to increasing downforce. Despite all these adjustments, you can just take it on the road. Hence the license plate on the car.

Although it is a major achievement, the lap time obviously pales in comparison to the times clocked at Circuit Zandvoort in the first weekend of September. Then Formula 1 was back for the first time in 36 years and Max Verstappen took pole position with 1:08.885. The fastest lap of the race was clocked by Lewis Hamilton, who completed the circuit in 1:11,097. Ten Voorde’s time fits between the lap records set with (non-street legal) GT1 and GT4 cars. In September 2020, driver David Hart completed the circuit in 1:35.628 with a Maserati MC12 GT1, in the same month Bastian Buus set the GT4 class record with a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport: 1:43.704.
