The ultimate niche Porsche?

For those who like to hit the circuits with an extreme Porsche 911, but still want to be able to take their car home and, above all, drive it, Porsche has the 911 GT3 RS on offer. If you only want to have fun on the track with your winged 911, the non-street legal racing version called the 911 GT3 R will suffice. Porsche is now introducing a special limited edition of the 911 GT3 R.
That Porsche is lord and master in devising special versions of a model that is almost unattainable for the average mortal in basic trim, is evident today. Porsche is introducing a limited special edition of the non-road legal track version of the Porsche 911: the 911 GT3 R Rennsport. In any case, it distinguishes itself from the ‘regular’ GT3 R with more than just its appearance, it is actually stronger.
While the existing 911 GT3 R fully meets the requirements that the FIA sets for a GT3 racer, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport completely breaks free from those limitations. However, the biggest limitation remains: you are still not allowed to take it on public roads. The 911 GT3 R which you could already order from Porsche has a 565 hp 4.2 six-cylinder boxer engine, but the Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport, limited to 77 units, goes even further with 620 hp. That machine – which, in addition to regular petrol, also uses E25 – whines until the tachometer shows 9,400 rpm and has new pistons and camshafts, among other things. Shifting is done via a slightly sequential six-speed gearbox. Other gear ratios give the special racing 911 a top speed that is 20 km/h above that of the regular GT3 R (with shorter gear ratios). The vehicle weight must be approximately 1,240 kilos.

On the outside, the ultimate niche Porsche distinguishes itself with its body kit from the 911 GT3 R. The spoiler work all around is different and on the back there is a truly immense wing that is completely different from the ‘gooseneck’ copy on the back of the existing 911 GT3 R. In the straight line that makes up the rear lights, we do not find the model name of the car, but the brand name is written out illuminated. Porsche may already be hinting at what you will eventually see on the facelifted 911s that you can drive on public roads. You may have to look closely for the other adjustments, but according to Porsche, every piece of bodywork minus the roof in the front hatch is completely new. We also ‘see’ cameras that take on the role of the side mirrors. In addition, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport has blue instead of red lighting at the front.

Porsche describes the limited 911 GT3 R Rennsport as a successor to the reincarnation of the 935/78 presented in 2018, based on the then current 911 GT2 RS Clubsport: the 935. Really something for the collector. That’s what the price is based on. Porsche is asking €951,000 for the 911 GT3 R Rennsport…
