We already knew that Porsche is working on a new 911 GT3 RS since the end of 2020. Now, almost two years later, Porsche itself is releasing a few images of the track monster. We don’t have to wait long for the official reveal.

Porsche will pull all stickers from the GT3 RS on August 17. The most extreme 911 to date is still covered in black tape on some points in Porsche’s photos. Fortunately, our attentive spy photographer was able to capture the GT3 RS almost without camouflage tape, with the large air guides on the flanks particularly striking. The huge rear wing could already be seen in previous spy photos, but the close-up below shows the design of that double rear spoiler. Since the spoiler on previous prototypes was closed, the spoiler of the GT3 RS is most likely manually or electrically adjustable.

Piece of pie, anyone?

We still have to wait for the final specifications of the GT3 RS, but Andreas Preuninger, the boss of the GT department of Porsche, confirms that the GT3 RS will have a naturally aspirated 4.0 boxer engine with ‘about 500 hp’. That would mean that the GT3 RS hardly gets more power than the 510 hp of the regular GT3. According to Preuninger, the emphasis was not on brute force either. “When developing the new GT3 RS, we focused mainly on aerodynamics and chassis,” he says.

Of course, that does not exclude the possibility that the new GT3 RS will get some horses. Between the previous 911 GT3 and GT3 RS, it was 20 hp in favor of the GT3 RS. In any case, the new GT3 RS is ‘even better optimized for track use than its predecessors’. Perhaps another lap record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife will be shattered.
