The Porsche 911 Safari appeals to the imagination. He competed in the Paris-Dakar desert rally, pioneered the Porsche 959 and inspired two tuners to come up with their own high-rise 911s: the Ruf Rodeo and the Gemballa Avalanche 4×4. Would the Porsche 911 Safari return? Because this prototype on the Nordschleife is very high on its legs.
For those who don’t know what a Porsche 911 Safari is… At the end of the seventies, Porsche decided to participate in the East African Safari Rally. For this, the brand used a raised 911 with four-wheel drive and all kinds of reinforcements on the chassis and body: the Porsche 911 SC Safari. Later – in the eighties – Porsche also took part in the Dakar Rally, first with the Porsche 953 and later with the Porsche 959.
Porsche 911 with increased ground clearance
Our spy photographer caught this Porsche 911 at the Nürburgring. As you can see, the sports coupe has a significantly higher ground clearance than normal. In addition, the wheel arches are slightly further extended, with an extra edge on the outside. Although you see that with more test prototypes. They are intended to indicate the tolerances in the wheel arches.
Porsche 992-facelift with hybrid drive
Rumors have been circulating for a while about an upcoming Porsche 911 Safari. Perhaps the model will appear when the current 992 generation of the 911 gets a facelift. In any case, it is certain that the updated 992 will have a (mild) hybrid powertrain for the first time in the history of the Porsche 911.
Singer All Terrain Competition Study
To get back to the Porsche 911 Safari; the tuners Ruf and Gemballa are coming soon (independently) with the Rodeo and Avalanche 4×4. At the beginning of this year, the American coachbuilder Singer also unveiled the All-terrain Competition Study. A loyal customer of the company wanted a modern version of the 911 SC Safari and 953. Singer built two.
