Porsche expands the delivery range of the 911 with a new engine version, and not just one. We welcome: the farm-fresh 911 Turbo S, a fierce newcomer that should actually be in Geneva.
The delivery range of the 911 traditionally consists of a very extensive series, of which we currently know the Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S. Porsche parks this 911 Turbo S at the top, which is no less than 70 hp more powerful than its predecessor.
Porsche chooses to push the Turbo S, the strongest variant of the dual Turbo range, before the presentation of the regular 911 Turbo. Thanks to our German colleagues from AutoBild, we were able to report earlier that the new 911 Turbo will have a 600 hp variant of the well-known 3.8-liter six-cylinder boxer engine. The brand new 911 Turbo S, which plays the leading role in this article, blows it by. Porsche lays in the back of a 3.8-liter six-cylinder six-cylinder engine with 650 hp and 800 Nm. This means that the new 911 Turbo S has no less than 70 hp and 50 Nm more than its direct predecessor. As with the previous generation 911, the Turbo S is only available with an automatic transmission, this time a new eight-speed PDK automatic transmission that distributes power across all four wheels. Whoever gives the 911 Turbo S on its falie must be able to reach a speed of 100 km / h in 2.7 seconds. This means that the new 911 Turbo S wins 0.2 seconds compared to the previous generation Turbo S. More impressive is the time gain on the sprint to a speed of 200 km / h. The new 911 Turbo S manages to finish that sprint with 8.9 seconds, one second earlier. Acceleration only stops when the magic number is 330 km / h in the set of instruments.
Appearance
From the outside, the 911 Turbo is not only recognizable by its bumper with larger air intakes, but also by the rectangular exhaust tailpipes, the aforementioned large rear wing and the extendable front spoiler. The spoiler work provides, according to Porsche, 15 percent more downforce compared to the previous 911 Turbo S.
With a width of 1.9 meters, the carriage of the 911 Turbo S is 2 centimeters wider than that of the existing 911s. Above the front axle, the width of the car has even increased by 4.5 centimeters. This is of course related to the increased track width. The 911 Turbo S has a heavy rear wing for the necessary downward pressure and is equipped with active aerodynamics, which adapts to the driving speed. The wheels have a diameter of 20 inches at the front, they measure 21 inches at the rear. It is the first time that the 911 Turbo S has wheels in two different sizes. The tires that are folded around the light metal have the size 255 / 35R20, while the rear ones are made in the size 315 / 30R21.
On the option list, Porsche places the Porsche Active Suspention Management sports chassis, among other things, which puts the 911 one centimeter closer to the asphalt. Those who pay extra can also have a sports exhaust with valves mounted under their 911 Turbo S. The four-wheel drive system is capable of sending up to 500 Nm of total torque to the front wheels. The standard equipment includes fully leather upholstery, carbon finish and silver accents. The seats are 18-fold electrically adjustable and have stitching that, according to Porsche, pays homage to the 930.
The new 911 Turbo S can already be ordered and will be available at the Dutch Porsche Centers in mid-May. The 911 Turbo S as a Coupé costs € 279,000. Prefer the wind in your crown? Opt for the Cabriolet that costs € 294,100.
