“ Porsche 918 successor will not come before 2025 ”

For the time being we do not have to count on a new hypercar from Porsche. This is evident from the words of Porsche CEO Oliver Blume.

Since the Porsche 918 Spyder is out of production, Porsche fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel. Last year, patent plates surfaced of what could possibly be that car, but that later turned out to be the 917 Living Legend Concept. CEO Oliver Blume now comes with a disappointing announcement for those who hoped that something will nevertheless be in the pipeline in the short term. For the time being, a successor to the hybrid hypercar is not on the agenda. That marks the British Autocar on. “We always think of a hypercar, a successor to the 918, but in the coming years our focus will be on the electrification of our offer. We will not get a hypercar before 2025, after that it might be possible,” said Blume.

Although Porsche will participate in the WEC with a hybrid hypercar, it will remain there for the time being. According to Blume, it remains to be seen how things will go in the coming years with the development of batteries with a higher energy density and with that he feeds the rumors that a possible 918 successor will become fully electric. Not entirely inconceivable, since fully electric hypercars are currently shooting like mushrooms anyway. The fact that Porsche recently took a larger stake in Rimac, makes the chance that Porsche will resort to pure electric drive for a new hypercar even greater.
