Porsche 924 (1984) – Enthusiast Wanted

As in the past, the Porsche 924 is an interesting option if you want to drive a Porsche on a modest budget. This example is the cheapest second-hand Porsche of the moment that is not a Cayenne. You just have to turn a blind eye here and there.

If you want to put a Porsche on your doorstep for a relative penny, you can go for a first-generation Cayenne with a hefty mileage. However, we recommend that you look at a 924, although an old Boxster can also be interesting. This 924 is in any case the cheapest Porsche currently on offer if you ignore the Cayennes. He only needs to bring in €3,995. But there are some catches in the grass.

To start with, it is not an original Dutch Porsche 924, but one that was recently imported from Germany. With its five-digit odometer, unless good documentation is available, it is difficult to find out what the actual mileage is. The counter shows more than 55,000 km, but add at least a ton. All in all, you can see from the 924 that he has a bit more experience than that. The 924 has a pretty worn steering wheel and also some entry damage on the driver’s seat. We find more external flaws on the outside. Here and there there is a dent and scuff, especially on the right flank. The most eye-catching is the hood; who suffers from scurf.

Yet there are also plenty of things that speak in favor of this 924. For example, the original Blaupunkt radio is still present and that is a reflection of the rest of the car: everything still looks original. That is also worth something. The owner also indicates that the 924 drives well and that he has done quite a bit himself – before the registration of the Porsche. For example, the brake pads and shoes have been renewed, the oil and oil filter have been changed and other fluids have been replenished. The battery, fuel pump, spark plugs, V-belt, fuel filter and air filter are also new and it has a revised alternator. The timing belt and tensioner were also ‘recently replaced’. He has already had some love, but can use some attention especially optically. For such a starting amount there is bound to be an enthusiast who is willing to put in some more money to make it top, right?

Even in tip-top shape, this 924 is a completely different story than many other Porsches. It is a nice dated brown party in the interior and in the nose is a relatively modest 125 hp 2.0 four-cylinder. This makes the 924 a bit slow for Porsche standards, but at a car weight of just over 1,100 kilos, it makes the 924 a reasonably smooth car. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is completed in 9.6 (provided all horses are still present) and the top speed is 204 km/h. For more Porsche-worthy performance you really have to save a little more.
