Porsche Cayenne Coupé sets new ring record

Porsche holds a new record at the Nürburgring. Test driver Lars Kern completed the infamous Nordschleife lap in 7 minutes and 38 seconds with the new top-of-the-line Cayenne Coupé. By that time, it will be the fastest SUV on the Eifel circuit.

To be precise, Kern rode the 20.8 kilometer Nordschleife in a time of 7:38.925. To protect the driver, the Cayenne Coupé was equipped with a roll cage and racing seat, apart from that a notary confirmed that the record SUV had the same specifications as the production model. Porsche reports that it is a ‘new performance model’, but does not yet have a label on it. Earlier, the new top version of the Cayenne Coupé already passed by. Stuttgart has not yet released detailed specifications, but the new variant is expected to be the strongest non-hybrid Cayenne ever. In any case, count on a power of more than 600 hp from the same 4.0 V8 as in the Cayenne Turbo.

Furthermore, the fast Cayenne Coupé is distinguished by its diffuser with two exhaust pipes, which are mounted more towards the center. The SUV rolls on specially developed 22-inch Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires as standard and features, among other things, a modified Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control. According to the manufacturer, it will be the most dynamic Cayenne in the range. Those modifications have now clearly paid off. In any case, test rider Kern was impressed and says the Cayenne had hardly any understeer in fast corners and was easy to control. That bodes well.

Of course, those claims require a test in practice. We have to wait a little longer for that, because very soon the unveiling of the peppered Cayenne Coupé, which may be called Cayenne Turbo S, is planned.
