Bye bye transmission lever

Porsche Cayenne

Porsche is about to renew the Cayenne and Cayenne Coupé. Our spy photographer awaited a slew of prototypes in the US state of Colorado and caught a glimpse of the interior. This shows that the interior of the Cayenne awaits a thorough redesign during the facelift.

It was already clear on previous espionage photos that something would change in the interior of the Cayenne. In those prototypes, however, the interior was somewhat provisionally screwed together. Now we get a look at an interior that looks pretty production-ready. It shows that the Cayenne does indeed get a smaller selector lever for the automatic transmission like the 911. However, it is not on the center tunnel, but to the left of the infotainment screen.

The interior has been changed on a number of points.

The disappearance of the large gear lever on the center console frees up space for a thorough renovation. The center console of the facelifted Cayenne does not only lose the automatic transmission lever, but also part of the haptic ‘buttons’ that were there before. Instead, there is a small rotary knob on the center console with a row of physical buttons above it. There still seems to be room for a number of haptic buttons around it. Furthermore, Porsche uses the redesign of the center console mainly to add extra storage space.

A number of things also change around the infotainment screen. A decorative frame will be placed between the screen and the central ventilation grilles, where previously the ventilation grilles connected almost seamlessly to the touchscreen. The screen seems to be slightly larger than before, but that is difficult to judge in this photo due to the canvas. The digital instruments are still covered, but it is not inconceivable that Porsche will also implement a number of changes there.

Flatter headlights

On the outside, the changes, as befits a true German facelift, are quite mild. The headlights are slightly flatter than before and also get different LED daytime running lights. The front bumper also gets a more aggressive design, with the regular versions also getting a double LED strip under the headlights. Previously, it was only reserved for the heavier versions. At the back, more remains the same.

In any case, we don’t have to wait long to see the changes in full, because the unveiling of the facelifted Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne CoupĂ© is planned for later this year.
