Porsche has had a record year

More than 300,000 cars sold for the first time

Porsche has had a record year

Happy faces at Porsche: never before has the manufacturer from Stuttgart sold so many cars as last year. The financial results are also to write home about.

Porsche was able to sell no fewer than 301,915 cars in 2021, about 11 percent more than last year. A milestone for the brand: it is the first time that Porsche has sold more than 300,000 cars in a year. Porsche owes this success for the most part to the Macan, of which 88,362 were sold in 2021. The Cayenne is a close second, with 83,071 units. More than twice as many of the Taycan were sold last year as a year earlier, 41,296 to be exact. The time-honored 911 has thus moved one place further down the sales ladder, but with 38,464 units, more were sold than ever before.

The good sales figures also translate into a pleasant financial situation for the brand. Porsche recorded a record turnover of €33.1 billion (+15 percent) in 2021 and a record high operating profit of €5.3 billion (+27 percent). The profit margin also grew, from 14.6 percent in 2020 to 16 percent in 2021.

Porsche does not yet share concrete sales targets and financial targets for 2022, although it does state that it wants to maintain the margin at this level in the long term. In any case, Porsche hopes to go public this year, CFO Lutz Meschke now confirms. It was previously announced that parent company Volkswagen Group was considering this. Feasibility tests are currently being conducted.
