Porsche is already showing the first images of the new 911 GT3 Cup. The heavily spoiled Elfer, which is based on the current 911 (the 992), will make its appearance in the 2021 racing season. According to the sports car brand from Stuttgart, the racing machine has been further improved in almost every area.
The 911 GT3 Cup in the photos is still wrapped in camouflage stickers, but the appearance of the GT3 Cup is already easy to guess. Just like the street version of the 911 GT3, which has yet to be officially unveiled, the racer has two centrally located exhaust pipes and a large diffuser. Furthermore, the lighting and the side mirrors are about the only two aspects that the track executioner has in common with the street version. The large rear spoiler with the ‘swan neck’ is of course immediately noticeable. The latter means that the wing, as it were, hangs under the attachment points, so that a larger part of the wing surface benefits the downforce. Naturally, the GT3 Cup has a completely stripped-down interior with a roll cage and small cooling slots in the rear side windows.
Porsche says it has ‘improved the 911 GT3 Cup in all areas’, but does not yet share extensive specifications. They will follow on December 12. What we already know is that the previous 911 GT3 Cup, that saw the light of day four years ago, a 485 hp 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine in the rear. Presumably, the 992 has a further developed version of this power source. Of course, the ultimate power and weight of the GT3 Cup depends on the FIA’s ‘Balance of Performance’ rules, which differ per race class. The starting price of the race 911 is not yet known.
