‘Porsche is working on an SUV over Cayenne’

The Porsche Cayenne has little to do with the word ‘modesty’ and yet it seems that Porsche is going one step further. Reportedly, the brand is working on an SUV that will be higher in the range and will focus on the BMW XM.

There are already some absolute giants in SUV land at the moment. Think of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, the Range Rover and the BMW X7. Porsche is not hooking up to that for the time being, with the emphasis on ‘for the time being’. Automotive News reports that Porsche also wants to mix with those giants. Dealers would have been informed about this by the brand. So the Cayenne seems to be getting a big brother.

Not much is known about the car yet, although there is talk of a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Porsche would also emphasize sportiness more than with the aforementioned large SUVs. In that context, the BMW XM seems to be a direct target, a sportier brother of the BMW X7. The BMW XM will get – just like the still unnamed Porsche – a plug-in hybrid powertrain that undoubtedly exceeds the 600 hp power. Porsche already has such a powertrain in house, which we know from the 680 hp Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid.

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT with its 640 hp power is currently the absolute sporty top when it comes to SUVs from Porsche, but it may be referred to the second place. That is, in terms of placement in the model range. The bigger brother will undoubtedly be – certainly with a partly electric powertrain – a lot more logger and therefore essentially less sporty than the Cayenne Turbo GT. We’re going to experience it. Exciting times in any case for the undoubtedly extremely exclusive group of people who are looking for an immense bang SUV.
