Porsche is preparing an LMDh prototype for racing. In 2023, Porsche will enter the World Endurance Championship with this, among other things, so the car will also be in action at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

A year ago, Porsche showed the first sketches of an LMDh prototype, a race car that will start in both the WEC and the American IMSA championship. Now the Germans are presenting us with the first images of the real thing. Since the cracked nose will not start the real work until 2023, it is not very surprising that details are still well hidden. Both the appearance and the technical specifications are largely kept under wraps by Porsche.

We already know that Porsche’s LMDh car is based on a Multimatic chassis. It is therefore not a racer developed from scratch, unlike, for example, the prototypes of Peugeot and Toyota. However, those two only participate in the WEC, the Porsche car can, as mentioned, also participate in the IMSA championship. As stipulated in the regulations, a combustion engine and an MGU (Motor-Generator-Unit) are responsible for the drive, good for a maximum power of 680 hp.

Porsche 919 Hybrid

Porsche was very successful in the WEC last decade with its LMP1 car, the 919 Hybrid. With this, the brand won the world title in 2015, 2016 and 2017. After this, Porsche called it quits in the endurance championship and Toyota was the only LMP1 participant in that class.
