Things are going fast with the Porsche Taycan. In the first quarter of 2021, Porsche is already at half of the total sales of last year in terms of the number of Taycans delivered. That also means that the sleek EV is almost over the 911 in that respect.
Porsche delivered 9,072 Taycan units worldwide in the first quarter. Of the 911, the brand handed over the keys to new owners 9,133 times, bringing the Taycan up to the 911 level by one hair. In addition, the Taycan attracts a wider audience: according to CEO Oliver Blume, half of the Taycan buyers are new customers. He also expects his brand to ‘sell significantly more Taycans this year than in 2020’. Given the results of the first quarter and the approaching market launch of the Taycan Cross Turismo, this is not a very strange statement.
Incidentally, the Taycan accounts for a larger part of Porsche’s total sales in the Netherlands. This year, the brand sold 121 Taycans in our country, representing 18.6 percent of the total of 650 cars. This means that the Taycan is not over the 911, because this year 181 copies of the sports car have rolled out of the showroom so far. The Cayenne is the best-selling model in the Netherlands this year with 223 units. The sales figure of the Macan is stuck at a relatively meager 38 cars.
In total, Porsche delivered almost 72,000 cars in the first three months of 2021. Compared to 2020, this is an increase of 36 percent. Porsche’s operating profit doubled to € 1.2 billion, sales rose 28 percent to € 7.7 billion. With 22,458 units sold, the Macan is Porsche’s most popular model. Incidentally, an electric version is also in the pipeline.
