The electric Porsche Taycan drifts into the Guinness World Records book. The plug-in crack nose broke the record for the ‘longest drift with an electric vehicle’ on the German Hockenheimring.
The Porsche Taycan appears to be a real drift frog. The Porsche Experience Center has a 200-meter long circular track on the German Hockenheimring, over which the Taycan drifted no less than 210 laps sideways in 55 minutes. The total distance covered by drifting: 42 kilometers and 171 meters. The average speed was 46 km / h. To prevent the tires from being completely smoked after a few laps, the track was of course sprayed with water. Nice news: behind the wheel of the rear-wheel drive Porsche Taycan was a Dutchman: Porsche instructor Dennis Retera.
Porsche Taycan
We already hear the Taycan expert think: ‘Huh, rear-wheel drive? Isn’t the Taycan always a four-wheel drive? ‘ That’s right, at least in Europe. Since the middle of this year, Porsche has been supplying not only the four-wheel drive 4S, Turbo and Turbo S in China, but also the milder set, simply called ‘Taycan’. In contrast to its four-wheel drive brothers and sisters, that entry-level Taycan has one instead of two electric motors. In the rear-wheel drive Taycan, this unit has 408 hp and draws its energy from a battery pack with a capacity of 79.2 kWh. This entry-level model is also available with the 93.4 kWh Performance Battery Plus package and delivers 476 hp.
And Europe?
Although those rear-wheel drive Taycans have been presented in China, that doesn’t mean they are only reserved for the Asian market. The Dutch importer previously explained to Techzle that the new versions made their debut in China because basic versions there account for a substantial part of Porsche’s sales mix. Next year the Taycan ‘RWD’ will also come to Europe! More news will come next year in the form of the Taycan Cross Turismo, a model that compares to the Taycan, like the Panamera Sport Turismo to the Panamera.
