Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo in full dress

The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo has already been shown extensively in a thin camouflage jacket and we were even allowed to drive it, but now the higher and wider version of the Taycan has been officially presented.

Highlights

  • Always four-wheel drive, more ground clearance, tough appearance
  • Large tailgate, up to 1,212 liters of luggage space
  • New: Taycan 4
  • Dutch prices already known

We have known since the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo was presented in 2018 that Zuffenhausen would come with an extra tough and spacious version of its first EV. Just as the regular Taycan can be considered as the production version of the ‘normal’ Mission E, this newcomer is clearly the descendant of the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo.

This means that the Cross Turismo differs from the regular Taycan on two points. First of all, it is a fashionable ‘high-on-the-legs’ model. The difference in ground clearance increases to a maximum of 30 mm with the optional Off-road package, but can also be minimized. The Cross Turismo has air suspension as standard, unlike the regular Taycan. At 1,409 mm, it is in principle slightly higher than a regular Taycan (1,395 mm).

More spacious and practical

Which brings us to the ‘Turismo’ in the name. Like the Panamera Sport Turismo, the Taycan Cross Turismo is basically a station wagon. In the case of the Taycan, this provides a more practical advantage than the Panamera, which in all cases has a large hatchback lid. Since a regular Taycan has to make do with a small sedan tailgate, the Cross Turismo is considerably more practical. We note a roofline that extends further back, a larger rear side window, a roof spoiler and a rear window wiper.

Behind that flap, the Cross Turismo offers 446 liters of luggage space. In comparison: a normal Taycan has to do with 366 liters. In addition, the sofa can still be flat, after which a not without merit 1,212 liters disappears into the toughest Taycan. Of course, 82 liters are still available in the nose. Rear passengers benefit from 45mm more headroom, making the Cross Turismo bearable even for taller passengers.

Taycan 4

Technically, the Cross Turismo is almost identical to the regular Taycan. Yet there is one big difference: the basic version. The Cross Turismo always has four-wheel drive and the basic version is therefore called ‘Taycan 4’. We did not know that yet, because so far the Taycan 4S was the least powerful four-wheel drive.

The twin-engine Taycan 4 delivers 380 hp ‘continuous’ and 476 hp in overboost. That is exactly as much as the rear-wheel drive basic Taycan with the large Performance-Accu Plus can deliver with one motor. To compensate for the extra weight and reduced air resistance, the larger battery is standard on the Cross Turismo.

With a 0-100 time of 5.1 counts, this simplest Taycan Cross Turismo is just a bit faster than the rear-wheel drive Taycan. The top speed is slightly lower at 220 km / h. Porsche states a WLTP range of up to 456 km and a consumption of between 26.4 and 22.4 kWh / 100 km.

The rest of the range is known, although the range and acceleration figures differ slightly due to the higher body and the higher weight of the Cross Turismo. Based on the power figures in overboost, the Taycan 4S comes to 571 hp, the Turbo to 680 hp and the Turbo S to 761 hp, with the latter popping from 0 to 100 in 2.9 counts. In comparison: a regular Taycan Turbo S does that in 2.8 seconds.

Prices

Porsche immediately tells you what the rugged, practical Taycan in the Netherlands must cost. The Taycan Cross Turismo is available from € 97,400. It concerns the Taycan 4. The 4S Cross Turismo costs € 116,000, the Turbo Cross Turismo costs € 159,300 and the Turbo S Cross Turismo has to yield € 193,200. Without options, of course, so you can bet that the copies that you will see in practice will be a bit more expensive. The splitter-like elements on the photographed cars, for example, are part of an Off-road Design package and roof rails are also not standard.

The price difference between the regular model and the Cross Turismo varies with these prices from just under € 10,000 to € 1,500. The smallest price difference applies to the Turbo S and the largest to the entry-level model, but that is not illogical. Compared to the simplest Taycan, the cheapest Cross Turismo not only offers a more spacious body, but also air suspension, four-wheel drive and a larger battery. The Cross Turismo will be at the Dutch Porsche Centers from May.

The bicycle carrier in the press photos has been specially developed for this car. It can handle up to three (electric) bicycles and the tailgate can still be opened when the carrier is in use.

Interior photos are not available at the time of going to press, but will be completed as soon as possible if Porsche comes up with them in the short term.
