Porsche has got the retro taste. During the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it presents the Vision 357 Speedster, an electric open fun machine that is overloaded with classic design.

Porsche has been in existence for 75 years and the brand celebrated that joyful fact at the beginning of this year by presenting the Vision 357. Porsche elaborates on that study model, which is overloaded with retro design, with this Vision 357 Speedster. The Speedster part of the name already reveals how the new show car distinguishes itself from its close brother. But the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster also differs greatly from its close equivalent in another area.

The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster next to the closed version.

While the closed Vision 357 that was presented in January this year, borrowed its 500 hp powertrain from the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS, this Vision 357 Speedster shares its technology with the 718 GT4 e-Performance. That means it has the powertrain and batteries of the Mission R and is built around the chassis of a 718 GT4 Clubsport. Indeed: the Vision 357 Speedster has an electric powertrain. And what kind. The powertrain of the 718 GT4 e-Performance stomps up to 1,088 hp to the rear wheels and has an 80 kWh battery pack.

The Vision 357 Speedster is primarily an open version of the Vision 357. The fact that it doesn’t have a roof means that we can see the interior of the Vision 357s for the first time. The interior is covered with a tonneau on the co-driver’s side, so things are still hidden from view. What we do see: a lot of carbon fiber, a transparent digital instrument panel and a steering wheel with striking Miami Blue-colored accents.

Will the car go into production? Most likely not. Porsche previously described the closed version as a ‘possible expression of future Porsche design’. It may therefore contain fragments of design elements that you will see later.
