Potato juice is a traditional home remedy and helps with many ailments. We’ll show you what potato juice is good for and how you can make it yourself.

Potato juice is traditionally used to treat stomach problems. There is also evidence that it may be effective for other illnesses. It is also said to be useful when applied externally.

In this article, you will learn what makes potato juice so healthy, what ailments and illnesses it helps with, and how you can make it yourself.

How healthy is potato juice?

Potato juice can be made from raw potatoes. Raw potatoes are poisonous in large quantities and you should avoid eating them: they contain the alkaloid solanine, which is harmful to humans in large quantities. However, potato juice contains only a small amount of solanine and has all the more health benefits.

  • In addition to its positive effect on an overly acidic stomach and the associated complaints, potato juice contains a lot of proteins. If consumed regularly, it can lower high cholesterol and blood sugar.
  • There are new studies that suggest that potato juice may help in the treatment of cancer of the digestive tract.
  • When applied externally, potato juice is said to relieve skin problems. However, this has not been scientifically proven.

Make your own potato juice

To make potato juice yourself, you should first peel the potatoes generously.

Only use potatoes that have no sprouts, green spots or bruises. For one serving of juice you will need about four medium-sized potatoes.

  1. Peel the potatoes generously, because most of the solanine accumulates directly under the skin – which is what you want to avoid.
  2. Grate the potatoes with a fine grater into a kitchen towel.
  3. Press the mixture through the kitchen towel into a glass.
  4. You have to drink the juice immediately, otherwise it will become bitter and oxidized.

It is easier if you have a juicer in which you can put the potatoes after peeling them. You can also buy potato juice in health food stores, organic shops and organic online shops. Store-bought juice contains so little solanine that even pregnant women can drink it.

Potato juice helps with stomach problems

The traditional home remedy potato juice is particularly gentle on the stomach: if you suffer from heartburn or inflammation of the stomach lining (gastritis), potato juice can help. This is because the peptides and sugar components in the juice neutralize the acidic gastric juice. The potato juice is gentle on the stomach lining and relieves the symptoms. If you have acute symptoms, drink around 50 milliliters of juice.

If symptoms persist for a longer period of time, a potato juice treatment can help: drink 50 milliliters of potato juice with a teaspoon of olive oil every morning for three weeks.

Warning: Potato juice cannot cure chronic gastritis. In this case, you should seek medical treatment.

Potato juice for skin and feet

A little potato juice treatment is also said to be good for the skin:

  • In the case of sunburn, the juice is said to support the regeneration of the skin. To do this, apply the potato juice to your skin with a cotton pad or homemade makeup remover pad.
  • If you bathe your rough hands and feet in potato juice for about 20 minutes, they will become soft and supple again. Do not rinse the potato juice off afterwards, but dab it off with a towel.
