Small engine, big car: is that going well?
The Peugeot 3008, officially called 3008 SUV by the brand, is one of the many models with the 1.2-liter PureTech under the hood. This engine has made its appearance in this section a few times before, but not yet in a large Peugeot. How economical is the Peugeot 3008 SUV in practice?
In this article we look at the ‘original version’ of this engine, which has been supplied since the introduction of this generation 3008. Before that, it was also available for a short time in its predecessor, the model with a more MPV-like body. The 1.2-liter PureTech will soon receive electric support, but that’s not all. This mild-hybrid variant also replaces the timing belt with a chain, which should make problems reported earlier this year a thing of the past.
Consumption 3008 1.2 PureTech
Well, now we draw attention to the current 1.2 PureTech. With this small three-cylinder, drivers of the 3008 SUV note an average consumption of 1 to 13.9 (7.3 l/100 km). For those who can still remember: the technically almost identical Opel Grandland, which we discussed earlier in this section, consumed exactly the same.
The bandwidth differs slightly, because with a consumption of 1 in 15.8 (6.3 l/100 km) over a distance of more than 127,000 kilometers, the most economical 3008 driver performs slightly less well than the most economical Grandland driver. At the lower end of the spectrum, the difference is minimal: 1 in 11.8 (8.5 l/100 km) for the Peugeot against 1 in 12 (8.3 l/100 km) for the Opel.
And the 1.6 e-THP?
In addition to the roaring three-cylinder, Peugeot also supplies the 3008 with a four-cylinder 1.6 turbo, which delivers 165 hp. We have less data available for this version, but the data that is available report an average consumption of 1 to 13.1 (7.6 l/100 km). This means that the difference in fuel consumption between the two engine variants remains limited. The bandwidth? Between 1 in 14.2 (7 l/100 km) and 1 in 12.1 (8.3 l/100 km).
