Practical fuel consumption Renault Talisman: what are we missing?

With the Renault Talisman, one of the last traditional D-segmenters disappeared. And then many copies of this model, launched in 2016, also had a diesel engine under the hood. It used to be called an economical representative car, but now the entire segment is dying. In this article we take a look back at this traditional car: a large middle class with a diesel engine. What does he actually use?

Most Talismans in the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor are of the dCi 110 type. Indeed, the well-known 1.5-liter dCi engine that we know from almost all other Renault models. In addition, we see two more powerful dCi 160s, with a 100 cc larger engine capacity and 50 hp more power. The TCe petrol engines are also discussed, although there are considerably fewer.

Consumption Talisman 1.5 dCi 110

The average consumption that Talisman 1.5 dCi drivers score is 1 in 19.3 (5.2 l/100 km). The three most economical drivers achieve 1 in 20 (5 l/100 km) or better, with this driver as the leader. With 1 in 20.3 (4.9 l/100 km) over a distance of almost 60,000 kilometers, this is the most economical Talisman in the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor.

The highest practical consumption achieved with this 1.5 liter is 1 in 17.9 (5.6 l/100 km), still quite favorable. This value was realized over an even more significant distance of 134,078 kilometers. We dare not make any statements about the more powerful 1.6 dCi: the two owners kept track of consumption very briefly.

And the Talisman on petrol?

In the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor we find considerably fewer petrol than diesel engines. Cars we do see have a TCe 150, TCe 200 (1.6 liter turbo) or TCe 160 with 1.3 liter turbo. There are too few to extract a realistic average, but with 1 in 16.8 (5.9 l / 100 km) this 1.6 driver is doing very well in any case. This consumption was achieved over a distance of 77,203 kilometers and 111 refuellings. The most powerful Talisman in our list, the TCe 200, is at the bottom with an average consumption of 1 in 11.7 (8.6 l / 100 km).

Whether buyers will miss the traditional D-segmenter may never become clear, but we do see that with the Talisman another economical diesel car has disappeared. The low consumption of this 1.5 dCi does not come as a surprise: drivers of a Renault Kadjar achieved an average of 1 to 19.7 (5.1 l/100 km).
