In particular, bright skin types tolerate sunlight on the skin poorly. Instead of hazelnut brown, the skin is stained and red after sunbathing, itchy pustules spread out. The self -diagnosis is often: sun allergy.

In fact, the reaction is not an allergy, because there is no allergy to sunlight-only skin reactions on UV rays:

  • You get symptoms such as redness and itching because of a polymorphic light dermatosis.
  • The so-called Mallorca acne is also widespread, in which itchy pimples arise after sunlight. Women are affected by sun allergy more often than men.
  • In addition, a phototoxic reaction can occur if ingredients in cosmetics or medication let the skin react with the sun. If the fabrics in combination with sun rays lead to allergy symptoms, there is talk of a photoallergic reaction.

Why exactly such symptoms occur in some people is still unclear. However, a genetic predisposition in combination with hypersensitivity to UV radiation is probably the cause. But even without knowing the exact reason, you can fall back on some proven methods to prevent or reduce symptoms of a sun allergy.

  • Nutrition: vitamin D3, vitamin A, calcium, beta-carotene and generally antioxidants should help prevent sun allergy or to reduce symptoms. So try to consume many foods that contain these nutrients, especially in spring and summer. Vitamin A, for example, is mainly in fruit or vegetables that are yellow, orange, dark green or red, such as in carrots.
