The promised introduction of the ID.3 seems to be increasingly unfeasible for Volkswagen. A new anonymous source: “This is no longer a joke”.
The German Süddeutsche Zeitung has spoken to new sources working at Volkswagen. They say: “The car is far from ready for the market. This is no longer a joke. ” Although Volkswagen does not say a word about it, reports have been circulating for months that Volkswagen has serious production problems. The software of its all-electric ID.3 is the major culprit, according to reports. The basic architecture of the software in the ID.3 would have been designed too hastily, Manager Magazin noted. As a result, various aspects of it would not communicate properly and fail.
The new sources say the panic is big with the manufacturer. Internally it would have been shared that “it is an absolute disaster. We cannot get the right people. ” The main problem is the lack of young ICTers who can get started with the new software. Volkswagen, meanwhile, would be desperate for expert programmers. The brand also got another big hit, because its IT boss Martin Hofmann will leave the brand at the end of the month, according to Süddeutsche Zeitung.
The ID.3 is an important car for the brand. As the first member of the new electric ID family, the car is the showpiece of CEO Herbert Diess. In addition, Volkswagen needs the car to be able to meet the new CO2 requirements that will apply in Europe. Without ID.3, the company could face hefty fines. According to the Dutch importer, however, there is no question of a possible delay. “We have so far received no signals from Volkswagen that production of the ID.3 may be delayed.” Time will have to tell if it stays that way.
