Problems with Spotify on Windows, then what?

Problems with Spotify on Windows, then what?

Sometimes you use Spotify on Windows and suddenly the screen shows that “something went wrong”. Don’t worry, usually there isn’t that much going on. You also have a number of solutions at your disposal, which we will walk you through in this article.

Sometimes Spotify stops working on Windows for inexplicable reasons. A simple message indicating “something went wrong” provides little additional information. But usually that notification comes up when there are server problems, you use an outdated app version or when you use Spotify in combination with a VPN.

You can do a number of things to fix the problems. The most obvious things are restarting Spotify, reinstalling it or possibly disabling your VPN. Have you already tried that, but it doesn’t produce the desired result? Then let’s go a few steps further.

Spotify on Windows shows problems

For example, the problem doesn’t necessarily have to be on your side. Sometimes Spotify has server issues that need to be resolved before the service is reinstated. If that’s the case, you can use websites like Down detector or Allestoringen.nl check if you are the only one and how long such an outage has been going on. There’s not much you can do about it and then you really have to wait until Spotify’s technicians have solved the problem for you.

If that’s not the problem and the other two solutions don’t help either, you can log in again. Open the app on Windows and click on your name at the top right. Then select the bottom option Log out to sign out of Spotify. You can then log in to the service again with your existing account, after you restart the app.

And while we’re on the subject of that menu: it can also help to have a Private session to start. If there’s a temporary glitch somewhere in the system, such a private session can work around things a bit, thus possibly including the problem. This is of course no guarantee; but if the solutions so far didn’t work, you might as well give this a try, of course.

Clear Spotify cache

Finally, we will cover clearing the cache of Spotify app on Windows. The cache ensures that Spotify always loads quickly on your computer and offers a smooth experience. But that same cache can also cause problems that persist if you don’t empty it in time. You then proceed as follows.

  • Open Windows Explorer and go to C: > Users > [jouw profiel].
  • Press the button at the top Image and search Hidden Items on. You’ll find that button a little to the right of center; put a check next to it by clicking on the empty square.
  • Now go to the folders AppData > Local > Packages > SpotifyAB.SpotifyMusic_zpdnekdrzrea0 > LocalCache.
  • Open the Spotify folder and select all. Now press the Del button on your keyboard or select the files with your right mouse button. Choose the option remove.

These steps should be able to solve all problems. If the app still doesn’t work after that, please contact the Spotify customer service.
