Production version electric Renault Mégane eVision caught

This year, Renault will come up with a new electric model that will try to win over the electric buyer in the Mégane segment. With the Mégane eVision, Renault already gave a concrete preview last year and today the promising model has been publicly caught in test costume for the first time.

In October 2020, Renault presented the Mégane eVision, a study model with which the brand conveyed a clear message. Not only did the concept car look ready for production with a handful of details, Renault also revealed that a production version would be available in 2021. He has now been caught in production form during test work in the cold high north. We can probably welcome it before the end of the year.

Incidentally, do not expect that the packed test sample that you see in these photos serves as the successor to the Mégane. It is expected that the electric hatchback laced with crossover elements will soon be placed next to the Mégane in the range. Expect a car that should be seen as what Kia’s XCeed to Ceed is, but with an electric powertrain.

With a length of 4.21 meters, the Renault Megane eVision was over 15 centimeters shorter than the current Megane. That sounds on the tight side, but Renault promises mountains of interior space. Underneath the car is the modular CMF-EV platform developed together with Nissan, a basis intended purely for EVs. The wheels are set well on the corners and because a large number of parts, including the air conditioning hardware, are housed in the nose of the car, you still have enough interior space with fewer centimeters available. A conventional transmission is also lacking, which results in a flat floor.

The Mégane eVision had a 60 kWh in its bottom and was powered by a 217 hp and 300 Nm strong electric motor on the front axle. The 1,650 kilo show car could thus – on paper – reach a speed of 100 km / h in less than eight seconds. The production version, which may be called Mégane-E, is by no means the only EV that Renault has in the barrel. The Morphos Concept, which debuted around this time last year, served with its retractable carriage to illustrate that various electric models in various sizes are on the way. This includes not only crossovers, but also sedans and SUVs. The CMF-EV platform is suitable for cars with a wheelbase of up to 2.77 meters. As said, the electric Renault will make its debut later this year.
