Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge Ékleipsis Private Collection

Rolls-Royce is launching a special, limited version of the Ghost. The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection comes in an edition of 25 copies and has, yes, a solar eclipse as its theme.

The name ‘Ekleipsis’ – Eclipse – already gives away that the solar eclipse is the theme here. The developers of this special Ghost actually had it easy, because with the ‘Black Badge’ version as a starting point, the ‘eclipse’ part of the solar eclipse was already taken care of. The sun is added by an exterior in ‘Golden Darkness’, a dark, bronze-like shade. According to Rolls-Royce, accents in orange-colored ‘tangerine’ refer to ‘the intense sun rays that can be seen as the solar eclipse progresses’. These accents are not only found on the wheels and as a ‘pinstripe’, but also in the interior.

The absolute highlight of this solar eclipse mobile is without a doubt the Starlight canopy. Instead of the ‘normal’ starry sky that can be installed there as an option, the Ékleipsis Private Collection has a sky in which the points of light gather around a black circle, to create the effect that can be seen during a complete solar eclipse. This is not a static whole, but a dynamic animation. We’ll let Rolls-Royce itself do the talking:

The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis features a fully Bespoke Starlight headliner with a special animation that, like the solar eclipse, gives the occupants a sense of amazement and wonder. As the doors close and the engine is started, the ‘stars’ in the Starlight sky darken and a mesmerizing sequence begins, mimicking the totality of the solar eclipse, with the dark silhouette of the moon completely obscuring the bright light of the sun . A circle of 940 ‘stars’ is formed, representing the bright ring of light around the moon’s silhouette. This is surrounded by a further 192 ‘stars’, which mimic the otherworldly spectacle of stars visible in the daytime sky, only visible during a total solar eclipse.

This spectacle takes place in exactly seven minutes and 31 seconds, which is not entirely coincidental the longest possible duration of a total solar eclipse. ‘Wonderful’ is what Rolls-Royce calls such an eclipse. The brand has a point with this, because the 400 times smaller moon can only completely cover the sun from the eye because the sun is 400 times further from the Earth than the moon. Just so you know.

Anyone who does need an automotive tribute to a solar eclipse, but does not have the money for a Rolls-Royce ‘Ékleipsis’, can also simply look for a Mitsubishi Eclipse (Cross). Almost as beautiful.
