Public Wi-Fi: login screen does not appear
You have probably experienced, for example, that you receive the login details for the public Wi-Fi in your hotel, but that you do not see a login screen as soon as you want to log in. In the worst case, you will not have fast and free internet, while you had counted on it.
Even if you’ve managed to log in once, the same problem can reoccur over and over again. What seemed to work the first time, will not work the next time. That causes frustration and that is of course the last thing you want.
This way, you can connect to public WiFi at lightning speed
Public Wi-Fi networks are used by Apple’wifi capture networks‘ (captive Wi-Fi networks). Most people just call it “public Wi-Fi” or “Wi-Fi hotspots,” and you’ll find them in cafes, internet cafes, hotels, airports, and other public places.
Tiktok user @ndainternet has a trick to quickly connect to such a Wi-Fi trapping network. If you do not see the public WiFi login page, do the following:
- Open Safari on your Apple device;
- In the address bar, type captive.apple.com and tap Enter;
- Enter your login details.
How does it work exactly?
You simply use the mentioned URL to call up the public Wi-Fi login page. Internet access is thus linked to the user’s consent to certain rules. The provider can also link access to a specific user account in order to charge.
The trick above only works with Wi-Fi capture networks, but in practice that is almost all public Wi-Fi that you will have to deal with. Moreover, you can not only apply the trick to your iPhone, but also to your iPad or MacBook!
