British coachbuilder Radford is being revived. The first project is now in the pipeline and Radford has now announced that a Lotus forms the basis.
If you’ve never heard of Radford, we can well imagine. It was a coachbuilder who made a name for himself in the United Kingdom, especially in the 50s and 60s, with modified Rolls-Royces, Minis and Aston Martins. The most famous creation is probably the Aston Martin DB5 Shooting Brake, of which twelve were made with the approval of Aston Martin. Founder Harold Radford was also responsible for the production of the bodywork of the Ford GT40, so you could put something beautiful together. Radford is now being revived by Formula 1 world champions Jenson Button and Ant Antstead, among others, known from the television program Wheeler Dealers.
The gentlemen are eager to show their first creation. That will be a car based on a Lotus, although it is not yet stated which Lotus. However, we think we recognize the lines of the Exige. In the Radford style, we can expect – in contrast to usual with the Exige – a quite sumptuous interior. Don’t worry, though, that ride quality comes second: “… driving it will be a completely new and very special experience. the sophistication you would expect. It gets something pure that has been lost in today’s cars, “said Jenson Button. We are curious!
