Smaller battery indeed
The rear-wheel drive version of the Lucid Air Pure can now be ordered in the US, giving the model range a new entry-level version. As a result, we now know a little more about this car, which could be extra interesting for the Netherlands.
The Lucid Air, the debut model of the already controversial Lucid, is also available in the Netherlands as Pure. At €115,000, this is currently the most affordable version of this impressive electric limousine, but not definitively. The current ‘Pure’ is the AWD version, with four-wheel drive and 487 hp. The less expensive rear-wheel drive version had already been announced, but is now making itself heard in America.
The cheapest Lucid so far does not have 487, but 436 hp. This increases the sprint time from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) from 3.8 to 4.5 seconds, which is still nice and quick. For comparison: the Pure RWD takes 4.0 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h.
Interestingly, the driving range is identical to that of the AWD: 419 miles according to the EPA measurement cycle and a slightly more modest 410 miles according to Lucid’s own estimate. If this is also the case in the Netherlands, the car can soon count on a WLTP range of 725 kilometers. This also applies to the AWD. The four-wheel drive has two motors and is therefore heavier. Then we know enough: as expected, the Lucid Air RWD has a smaller battery than the other Lucid models. How small? Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly, because Lucid does not (yet) communicate kWh values. Lucid does state that this more compact and lighter battery pack offers important advantages. Rear passengers would benefit from even more leg and foot space, which is also the case in the regular Pure compared to the more expensive Touring and Dream Edition models.
Price Lucid Air Pure RWD
Fast charging should be possible with a maximum of 250 kW, just like with the ‘normal’ Pure. The Lucid Air Pure RWD costs $77,400 in the US, equivalent to €73,294. For comparison: a Pure AWD costs €78,031. As mentioned, the car is listed here for €115,000, so you can bet that something will happen to that price before it arrives in the Netherlands, even at the RWD. There are no external differences between the AWD and the RWD and the equipment is also the same.
News for the Netherlands
Finally, there is a small Lucid Air news that already applies directly to Dutch customers: the Pure AWD is now also available with the Santa Cruz interior, where until recently only Mojave PurLuxe was possible for this model. Santa Cruz means partly light beige upholstery (rear seat, bottom of dashboard) plus some nice-looking wood accents. According to the configurator, it doesn’t cost a cent extra, so count your profit.
