BMW is recalling a line of plug-in hybrids. There would be a risk of a short circuit due to a manufacturing error.
BMW has on Auto, Motor und Sport announced that it is recalling a whole host of plugins. It concerns the 2-series Active Tourer, 3-series, 5-series, 7-series, X1, X2, X3 and X5 with such a partly electric powertrain. At subsidiary brand Mini, there are concerns about the Countryman Plug-in Hybrid. BMW Germany states that an internal inspection has shown that the batteries may have residues from surrounding welding and that in the worst case can cause a short circuit.
Worldwide it concerns only 4,460 cars, of which no less than 1,000 have been registered in Germany. Only 100 of the affected German cars are said to have already been delivered to customers. These are cars built between March 13 and August 6 of this year. It is not yet known whether there are also BMWs or Minis delivered in the Netherlands with the relevant cars. Techzle has asked BMW Netherlands for a response. In any case, nothing can be found in the recall register of the RDW.
