KTM has rolled out a recall for the KTM 390 Adventure (model years 2022-2024) and the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 (2022-2023). It is a possible defect in the electronic gas valve (e-throttle), which means that the engine can fall unexpectedly to idle speed while driving.
The cause of moisture is that the gas cover can penetrate and affect the electrical connection. As soon as the ECU detects different voltage values, the system switches the engine back to stationary. Only after switching on and again the contact is the effect. Warning signals for the rider are missing, which increases the risk of an accident.
The production period of the affected models runs from November 29, 2021 to March 20, 2024. 9,070 engines are involved in the US alone, with KTM wealth of the number of defects at around 1.6%.
The solution consists of the complete replacement of the throttle valve unit by a new part that has been produced from May 2024. Owners are informed by letter and can have their motorcycle repaired at the dealer.
Dealers are required to check vehicles in stock before they are delivered to customers. Anyone who has had the repair carried out earlier at your own expenses are eligible for reimbursement.
The problems were first reported in 2022, after which KTM together with supplier Uno Minda Ltd. An investigation started. After several reports in Canada and the US, KTM officially decided to recall in September 2025.
