Never before have so many cars been taken off the road by recovery companies as in 2022
Never before have so many cars been removed from their unfortunate situation by recovery companies in the Netherlands as in 2022. Stichting Incident Management Nederland reports this.
In total, recovery companies in the Netherlands carried out more than 177,000 recovery orders last year, Stichting Incident Management Nederland reports. That number was no less than 15 percent above that of 2021 and is an absolute record. In far from all cases, a so-called ‘breakdown relocation’ was necessary, whereby a car with a breakdown had to be towed away. In total, Stichting Incident Management Nederland recorded 106,847 breakdown movements last year. Never before have there been more than 100,000. There were 13 percent more than in 2021 and even more than three times as many as in 2015.
Bergers therefore not only turned out for broken down cars. Of the 177,086 salvage orders, 23,896 involved an accident. That number was 16 percent higher last year than in 2021, but not as high as in 2017 and 2019, when more than 27,000 accidents were reported. According to Stichting Incident Management Nederland, this lower number is partly due to the months of January and February when there were still corona measures and the number of recovery orders for accidents was around 1,700 units per month. At the end of last year, there were already almost 2,700 per month.
