Sales of new caravans and motorhomes are still gaining momentum. An absolute record was already set last year and the camping vehicles are already kicking off well this year. In fact, never before have so many motorhomes been sold in a January month as last month.
A total of 151 new motorhomes were delivered last month. That is 12 more than a year earlier and also the highest number of new campers ever in a January month, according to data from Bovag and RDC. A year earlier, the showrooms were still closed in January and February as a result of the hard lockdown, but also this year, not much was possible in the Netherlands due to the lockdown. Caravan sales rose by more than 50 percent to 316 units in the first month of 2022.
Business also went well on occasions. The sale of used caravans at the specialist trade increased by more than a quarter in January to 806 units, the highest number since RDC reported these data on a monthly basis from 2007 onwards. The motorhomes fared even better with 1,106 used units in January and also increased by a quarter compared to January 2021. It is even the first time ever that the specialist trade sold more than 1,000 second-hand motorhomes in a January month. Total sales volume tripled last January compared to five years ago.
