The Netherlands remains caravan country

Record number of used caravans imported

The fact that the Netherlands is still a caravan country is evident from the number of used caravans imported in 2022. While the import of campers has decreased, the number of used caravans brought to the Netherlands has actually increased.

In the first eleven months of 2022, 9,370 second-hand camper vans were brought to the Netherlands. That is about four percent less than in the same period of 2021. Definitive annual figures are not yet available, but Bovag and RDC who keep track of the figures indicate that they expect a few hundred more units to be added in December. The final score of 2022 is therefore estimated at 10,000 imported motorhomes.

It seems to be the first time in years that the import of second-hand campers has decreased. Since 2013, the import of used motorhomes has been steadily increasing. In 2013 there were less than 5,000, in 2019 already 8,500. Almost 43 percent of the used campers brought to the Netherlands come from Germany. Just under 24 percent come from Belgium, while about 20 percent of second-hand campers come from France.

Although the number of imported camper vans is decreasing slightly, the number of used caravans imported to the Netherlands is actually increasing. In the first eleven months of 2022, there will be 2,294 tow cabins, just under 9 percent more than in the same period of 2021. Even without including the December figures, the number of used caravans has never been imported before as in 2022. to double compared to ten years ago. Most second-hand caravans come from Germany (40 percent). 23 percent come from Belgium and just under 7 percent from France.
