Confidence in your own numbers

Red Bull’s Formula 1 team has responded to the FIA’s conclusion that the team went over the maximum budget allowed last year. Red Bull says it is convinced that everything was just right.
The competing teams have already accused Red Bull of it and now the FIA also concludes that Red Bull has gone over the budget cap in 2021. It is just not a huge overrun, as angry tongues claimed. You would say that Red Bull may be somewhat satisfied that it now indeed appears that it is a very limited exceedance, but nothing could be further from the truth. The team still seems convinced that it simply did the right thing: “We are surprised and disappointed to learn of the findings of the FIA,” the team said. “Our 2021 entry was under the budget cap, so we need to carefully study the FIA’s findings as we still believe the relevant costs were below the 2021 budget cap.”
It seems that this is indeed the case, but that ‘less relevant costs’ have resulted in the total amount being higher than allowed. After all, it would concern matters such as catering and (secondary) personnel costs that caused the bill to be too high. In any case, Red Bull will not be fooled by what will undoubtedly be further accusations from other teams and wants to focus mainly on the official further course of events: “Despite the suspicions and the position of others, there is of course a regulatory process with the FIA that we will follow with respect as we consider all options available to us.”
