Mitsubishi has shown two new shadowy images of the updated Eclipse Cross. The crossover is undergoing quite a metamorphosis, and not just aesthetically.
Three years ago, the Geneva Motor Show was the stage on which Mitsubishi presented the Eclipse Cross, a crossover with which the brand tried to make life difficult for popular SUVs such as the Nissan Qashqai. In the meantime, the Eclipse Cross is already at a certain age, and that means that behind the scenes a facelift is being worked hard to keep the model up to date. Mitsubishi doesn’t seem to hold back.
The renewed Eclipse Cross gets a more aggressive looking and more pronounced muzzle, where flat, sleek viewers together with completely revised bumpers define the picture. More interesting are the changes at the back. The entire buttocks will be overhauled. It is no longer possible with the light bar running the entire width of the buttocks, which divides the rear window into two parts. The rear lights still go up into the C-pillars, but from now on they only run a little under the rear window. The design of the rear lights is inspired by that of the e-Volution Concept, which now also dates from 2017.
The Eclipse Cross is also being considerably modernized on a technical level. The model will be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time. That Eclipse Cross PHEV probably gets most of its technology from its big brother, the plug-in version of the Outlander. It remains to be seen whether and when the renewed Eclipse Cross will come to the Netherlands. After all, Mitsubishi is in the process of closing its European chapter at least temporarily.
