It seems that many owners of agricultural and construction vehicles still quickly register them with the RDW at the last minute. The number of registrations increased rapidly last month, reports the Road Traffic Service.
Two of the three (agricultural) construction vehicles have now been registered, but only two months remain for the other 187,000 vehicles to apply for registration. In the past month, the RDW received an average of 20,000 applications per week, almost three times as many as in the previous months. “Owners know that their vehicle needs to be registered, but have always postponed the moment to start doing so,” says conversion manager Rob van Dokkumburg. “We get this impression through conversations at trade fairs, with customer service and with industry representatives. Most have already checked how it works. Most owners now feel the pressure to quickly arrange the registration. They know that from 1 January this will be much more difficult and more expensive.”
After 1 January 2022, tractors, moving equipment (MMBS) and towed equipment may only be used on public roads if they are registered with the RDW. In the next two months, this can still be done online at the RDW for €18 per registration. Registration is still possible from 1 January 2022, but only after an inspection at an inspection station. That costs at least €140 and for most vehicles even more. In the provinces of Friesland, Flevoland and South Holland in particular, owners still have to put in a big final sprint. Only 44 percent, 49 percent and 50 percent of the (agricultural) construction vehicles are registered there.
