Apple was expected to release iOS 18.2 on December 9, but the update has been postponed. When will iOS 18.2 come to your iPhone?
iOS 18.2 delayed
iOS 18.2 was rumored to be released on Monday, December 9, but Apple postponed the release of the update. The usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman even predicted that iOS 18.2 would be released on Monday, December 2 or Tuesday, December 3. Now we know that the update will only be released later, because Apple has still not brought iOS 18.2 to the iPhone.
That does not mean that Apple did not release an update for the iPhone at all on Monday, December 9, because the latest test version of iOS 18.2 has been released. It’s about Release Candidate 2the final release usually follows not long after the last test version. This means that we will probably be able to install iOS 18.2 on the iPhone soon. Apple may release the update Tuesday, December 10 out, in which case you can update tonight at 7 p.m. (Dutch time).
These new features are coming
iOS 18.2 brings a range of new features to your iPhone. Users in the European Union will have more freedom in setting default apps. This way you will soon be able to choose other applications that are used by default when you open your email, camera or photo library, for example. Have you installed an alternative app? Then with iOS 18.2 you can also remove the apps pre-installed by Apple from your iPhone.
In addition, the AirPods Pro 2 receive new hearing functions with iOS 18.2, allowing you to use the earphones to take a hearing test. Furthermore, it will be easier to temporarily share the location of the AirTag, you can set a maximum volume on your iPhone and the Photos app will have an improved layout. iOS 18.2 mainly brings minor adjustments to the iPhone, Apple Intelligence is not yet available in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Release iOS 18.2 possibly later
It is not yet certain when exactly Apple will release iOS 18.2. There is a good chance that the update will appear tonight, but Apple usually leaves a longer period between the last test version and the official release. The company almost always releases new software versions in the first half of the week. So we will see iOS 18.2 on Tuesday, December 10 or Wednesday, December 11.
Will Apple delay the update even longer? Then you cannot install iOS 18.2 on your iPhone until Monday, December 16 or Tuesday, December 17. In that case, the release will not take place long before the holidays, so it remains to be seen whether Apple indeed chooses these days.
