To do as much as possible in the shortest possible time as possible: “Acceleration” means a phenomenon of our time – which helps against it, is called “deceleration”. It brings peace to our everyday life and helps to reduce stress. We give 7 tips that slow down your life.

It is paradoxical: technical inventions such as dishwasher, smartphone apps or timer should take work or at least make us easier. One would think that we would have more time to relax. But the opposite is the case: Because we have more time, we stop more and even get into stress.

Because stress is never good for, we have collected methods that help to slow down your life.

“Acceleration” is the phenomenon of our time

Sociology Hartmut Rosa has defined a term for the above phenomenon: “acceleration”. According to him, acceleration is the core element of all modernization – and thus a blessing and curse of our time.

Due to the more possibilities, we are under constant pressure to do as much as possible, to enjoy life and just to miss nothing (keyword: fomo). However, this does not lead to more satisfaction, but to the opposite – in the worst case to burnout. We can counteract this with deceleration.

Slect in everyday life: 7 methods that help reduce stress

With a few simple methods we can slow down our life and reduce stress. We have put together seven tips that everyone can easily integrate into everyday life.

1. Say no

It just sounds, but it is often incredibly difficult for us: Submit the appointment for coffee with the in -laws when you have no nerves for it and do not undertake to guard a friend’s cat at the other end of the city if it is too much for you.

If we realize that an appointment or a task is stressing us, we are not committed to courtesy and can also say no in a friendly manner.

2. Use waiting times to take a deep breath

The snake at the supermarket fund, the traffic jam on the way home, the delay of the subway-(short) waiting times stress us enormously because we are calibrated that everything should go quickly and that we are often in a hurry. The anger that arises does not change the situation, but at most it makes it worse. This is exactly why we should use this time to take a deep breath.

Concentrate on yourself in such situations, breathe calmly, feel how you are doing, what emotions you feel and keep in mind that it does nothing if you get upset about the current situation. You will see: Time goes around so faster and you are more relaxed.

3. Digital detox – digitally detoxify

The acceleration of our life is also related to digitization. Due to digital media, we are exposed to a constant flood of information, also constantly accessible and are constantly under the pressure to miss something. That stresses.

In our article Digital Detox: You will deliberately learn how to make it possible to leave out the smartphone, PC and tablet – and to slow down in everyday life.

4. Live at the moment

We are sitting on the computer at work – but our thoughts are somewhere in the South Pacific, when shopping or on Instagram. If you realize that you are talking, try to deliberately concentrate on the present. Where are you now? What are you doing? And how do you feel With a bit of practice, we can slow down our everyday life by staying in our head where our body is.

5. Take a break – or just don’t do anything

To take a break, you don’t have to go on vacation to the other end of the world. Often one day or even an hour is enough to calm down and slow down your everyday life. Write in a diary, go to the fresh air, for hiking or cycling, read an inspiring book, lie down in the bathtub, meditator or just do nothing.

Every person helps something different to relax. The main thing is: Leave deliberately deliberately gaps in your calendar for these breaks.

6. Be careful

Mindfulness is a form of meditation that originally comes from Buddhism. Specifically, it is about consciously experiencing moments and listening to its inner emotions – without any evaluation. This is how you dismantle stress and slow down your life. Numerous scientific studies have confirmed the positive effects of mindfulness practice on health and well -being.

7. Slify through sport

Removing stress using sport is a tried and tested means. Simple sports such as jogging or walking are already suitable to slow down. But many also rely on holistic sports like yoga. They should train the body, mind and soul equally and help you to relax.

Relaxation trainer Katrin Feuerbach notes a strong demand for yoga. The intensive body work together with breathing exercises has an enormously calming effect, she describes. In order to lower the stress level, you should also pay attention to a healthy diet and the right sleep time – not too little, but not too much either.

Social contacts, alternating showers and sufficient exercise best in daylight could also help. If you relax the body and you have more well -being here, it transferred to the rest of the system. “If you do a long hike, you feel relaxed afterwards and the stress is usually gone. If you read a book on the couch for two hours, the stress will not simply dissolve in air, once it manifests itself,” says Feuerbach.
