There are two ways to delete Telegram. You can have your account automatically discarded after a certain period of time, or take matters into your own hands and go for the manual option. In this article, we’ll cover both ways.
Remove telegram: this is how you do it
We’ll start with the last option: manual removal. This method is especially recommended for people who are sure they want to turn their backs on Telegram and will stop using the app in the future. Be careful though, as you cannot undo the deletion of a Telegram account.
How to delete a Telegram account:
- Grab your phone or computer and go to this page on Telegram’s official website;
- Enter the phone number you used to create a profile. Write down your number in international format;
- You will now receive a code from Telegram via the app on your computer. Enter this confirmation code on the Telegram website;
- Press ‘Sign in’ and indicate, if necessary, why you want to delete Telegram. You do not have to enter the reason;
- Select ‘Done’ and confirm your choice by pressing ‘Yes, delete my account’.
Telegram will now start deleting your account. This means that your profile, chats, group conversations and audio will be deleted. Of course you can create a new account on the chat app, but your user data is no longer there. Are you definitely not going to use Telegram anymore? Do not forget to delete the app itself from your phone and / or computer.
Have telegram automatically deleted
Do you use Telegram every now and then, but still have doubts about the added value? Then you can also let the app ‘dust’. The account will be destroyed after a certain period of time, which you can determine yourself.
Here’s how you can automatically delete a Telegram account:
- Open the Telegram app on your iPhone or other smartphone;
- Go to the settings and tap on ‘Privacy and security’;
- Scroll down and press ‘If absent for’;
- Indicate now whether your Telegram account should be deleted after 1, 3, 6 or 12 months.
You don’t have to do anything anymore. If you have not opened the app for longer than the period specified by you, your profile will be automatically deleted. This option is also final: you have lost all your user data.
Alternatives to Telegram
There are several motives for removing Telegram. You may find it disappointing that not everyone can be reached via the app, such as with WhatsApp, you are bothered by the fact that chats are not encrypted by default or you have questions about the security of Telegram, which has been regularly attacked by hackers in the past.
Fortunately, there are plenty of alternatives. WhatsApp is of course the most popular, but this app is in the hands of Facebook and not everyone likes that. Signal is also an excellent alternative. This app is very privacy conscious and lives on donations.
