The Renault 19 is such a car that you once saw on every street corner, but of which only a handful of copies are left. They often survived because they were in the hands of an owner who was very careful with them. This copy was also lucky and looks almost like new!
Renault sold no fewer than 74,670 copies of the 19 in our country from 1988 to 1995. Reportedly, there are now only about 600 copies on registration. The Renault 19s that have withstood the test of time often still look pretty good. At the end of last year, the Renault 19 still passed as 1.7 Latitude in our ‘In the Wild’ section. In the history of that copy it was striking that two of its owners had it in their possession for a long time. That is also the case with the copy in question. Its first owner owned it for 26 years, from January 1995 to March 2021, obviously taking good care of his 19.
Renault 19
The Renault 19 came on the market in 1988 as a replacement for the 9 (hatchback) and 11 (sedan). It was therefore available in many body styles: three- and five-door liftback, sedan (Chamade) and two-door convertible. Renault considerably refreshed the 19 in 1992: the facelift version had more rounded lines, for example at the headlights, than its predecessor. This copy is one of after the facelift. It is a 1.4 RN, which stood just above the basic version RL and had, among other things, more luxurious seats. This copy is quite standard, but does have a glass sliding-tilting roof and the optional rear spoiler. The Renault 19 was optionally also available with indulgences such as air conditioning and electrically operated side windows, but this one has to be missing.
This Renault 19 covered only 54,605 kilometers in its 27-year existence. Presumably he was inside most of the time, because the red paint is not discolored and the plastic parts such as the bumpers and handles do not look weathered. Even the exhaust looks brand new, although it is not very likely that the original muffler is still on it. In the interior, the cleanliness of this 19 also stands out. The lack of the analog clock above the heater controls and the aftermarket radio are the only two blemishes we can spot. The seats and the armrests in the doors still look immaculate. Unfortunately, the selling party did not include a photo of the engine with the advertisement, so we cannot assess the optical condition of the 60 hp 1.4.
Renault 19
The selling party is asking €4,900 for this Renault 19. That is quite a bit of money, but even in a reasonably basic version, the Renault 19 is starting to become a special feature. This original and neat example with little experience deserves to be cherished by a Renault enthusiast. In addition, it is the cheapest Renault 19 currently on the AutoWeek used car finder.
