Renault 4 (2x) – Into the Wild

Renault 4 (2x) – Into the Wild

Sometimes there are spots that end up in this section where you get a bit of a melancholy feeling. That is also the case with these two Renaults 4 that colleague Joost Boers spotted.

Of course it looks very nice, two of those R4s next to each other, but a closer look causes a slight frown on our foreheads. Obviously the two have been around for a while. The youngest of the two in particular shows the necessary signs of prolonged exposure to the elements and, moreover, has not had a valid MOT for more than two years.

A shame, because that is a nice Safari version of the 4. A variant that Renault came up with in the second half of the 1970s and which is distinguished, among other things, by its black accents where you would expect chrome, thick bumpers, but also by a nice flashy colored interior. This copy even looks exactly the same (in terms of color, at least) as on the official press photo (photo 4). We wonder what the owner, who has owned it for six years, plans to do with it.

That also applies to the primal 4 next to it. The fact that it is half under a bush does not seem a very good sign to us. An extra shame, because the older of the two doesn’t even look that bad. It is one from 1963, so it is really one of the oldest surviving R4s in our country. Only two facelifts later, the 4 looked like his 1977 boyfriend standing next to it. The last Dutch Periodic Vehicle Inspection for this car was also two years ago. The inspection will expire in exactly four days, although this specimen no longer needs to go to the judge because of its age. Incidentally, this one has also been bivouacking with the same owner for six years, so in a short time he or she purchased two R4s at the time. Let’s hope they both are showered with love and not be left to the weather gods all winter in this parking lot.
