Renault Group is going to develop new technologies for energy storage together with a partner that is not very obvious at first glance. Renault does not embrace another car manufacturer, but aircraft manufacturer Airbus.
The technical departments of Renault Group and Airbus will jointly develop new energy storage technologies. The collaboration should offer benefits to both companies, each of which operates in its own branch of sport.
Renault and Airbus will mainly focus on optimizing energy management and reducing the weight of batteries. Among other things, attention is paid to solid-state batteries, a type of battery with a much higher energy density than more conventional lithium-ion ones. But there is more that has the attention of the two companies’ development teams. It also looks at how the production and recycling of batteries can be improved.
The collaboration should bring the future of Airbus hybrid aircraft one step closer. Renault Group naturally hopes to make its path to further electrification of its models easier to navigate.
