Renault and Stellantis cut Spanish production due to chip shortage

Due to all the positive reports, you might think that the chip shortage is about to end, but nothing could be further from the truth. Renault and Stellantis are canceling production shifts in their Spanish factories due to a shortage of chips.

The chip shortage has been dragging on since the start of the corona pandemic. Lately there have been hopeful messages, but now we are once again pressed against the facts. According to Reuters, both Renault and Stellantis are forced to cancel production shifts at Spanish factories. Renault cancels all Saturday for one Spanish factory, while another Renault branch will be running fewer services on several days in the coming period. These are the factories in Valladolid (Captur) and Palencia (Mégane, Kadjar).

At Stellantis, the company behind Peugeot, Citroën, Opel and Fiat, no cars are built during the weekend during the night. It concerns the factory in Vigo, a department of the former PSA that builds the Peugeot Partner and Citroën Berlingo, among other things. The Toyota ProAce City, based on those cars, also runs off the production line here. At least, while the chip stock lasts.
