Renault CEO: R5 replaces Zoe, R4 is not out of the question

Renault CEO Luca de Meo makes interesting statements about the future in an interview with Automotive News. Not only does the CEO hint at turning Dacia into a global player, De Meo also looks ahead to the electric Renault 5, among other things.

Renault CEO Luca de Meo presented with Renaulution not only an extensive future plan for Renault, but also for Lada, Dacia and Alpine colleagues in the group. In an extensive interview with Automotive News, De Meo indicates, among other things, that Dacia, currently mainly active in Europe, can also become a global player in the long term. Models such as the Duster and Sandero are currently sold as Renault in markets such as India, Russia and South America. That may well be different in about ten years. “[…] The production version of the Dacia Bigster comes to Latin America as a Renault. It will take about 1.5 car generations before we get Renault a little higher in the market and we have created a place in the market for Dacia to grow the brand globally, ”said the CEO.

Anyone curious about the exact placement of the final production version of the warmly received Renault 5 Concept no longer has to look at the photos of the study model with question marks overhead. According to Luca de Meo, the final R5 will serve as the successor to the electric Zoe. Although the Zoe was facelifted in 2019 and made a big leap, especially on a technical level, the basis of the car dates back to 2012. Purely in terms of age, a Zoe successor is therefore welcome. Whether the new R5 will be Renault’s only retro candy remains to be seen. When asked what De Meo thinks about the rumors about the arrival of an electric R4, the CEO says the following. “A nice car. Let’s just say I’m a passionate lover of historical models.” Although that is not yet confirmation that the Renault will also receive an electric successor four decades after its departure from the car market, it is hopeful. By the way, in mid-2019, Renault already showed an electric version of the primal R4 Plein Air, a cut-open classic in the style of the Fiat 500 Jolly that was christened e-Plein Air.
