European-Chinese cooperation

The Renault Group already works with Chinese partners such as Geely and Dongfeng, but may want to expand its ties with China. There have been discussions with Xiaomi, among others.
None other than Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo was present at Auto China in Beijing last week and he spoke with representatives of Xiaomi and Li Auto, among others. A senior Renault official confirmed this on LinkedIn, as we discovered via Autonews.
De Meo is said to have been in discussions with both parties to investigate whether possible partnerships can be forged. This would involve technological cooperation. It is striking that De Meo speaks with Xiaomi. The smartphone manufacturer is new to the automotive industry and is currently making its own money. However, the company’s ambitions as a car manufacturer are obvious.
As mentioned, Renault is already involved in a far-reaching partnership with the Chinese Geely for the development of fuel engines. It previously collaborated with Dongfeng for the production of Renaults for the Chinese market (see photo above). In 2020, the Dongfeng Renault joint venture was dissolved.
