Renault Kiger is new compact crossover

Renault is about to add another compact crossover to its model range. It is about the Kiger, a car where this Kiger Concept is a very accurate foretaste.

Renault has a brand new compact crossover in the development rooms: the Kiger. Anyone who gets wild at the digital drawings of the just presented Kiger Concept, we must disappoint. The Kiger Concept looks ahead to a compact crossover that Renault is currently only marketing in India.

Just like the brand new Nissan Magnite, the Kiger will be a crossover that is just under four meters long. The Kiger does not stay below four meters for nothing, in India the road tax for cars shorter than four meters is just as favorable. The Kiger has a relatively tough appearance with its angular nose that shows strong design similarities with that of the compact Kwid. Although the muzzle is very Kwid, we see in the C-pillar and to a lesser extent in the shape of the rear lights design influences of the Captur known here. The Kiger stands on 19-inch light alloy and has a ground clearance of 21 centimeters. The 19-inch alloy is unlikely to make it to the production stage.

Under the body of the Kiger is the platform of the Kwid CMF-A platform of the Renault Kwid, a base that we can also explore in Europe thanks to the upcoming electric Dacia Spring. The Kiger will be the tougher and bigger SUV brother of the Kwid. That small hatchback already has a bigger MPV brother: the Triber. It is likely that the final Kiger, just like the Kwid and Triber, will have a 72 hp and 96 Nm strong 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine. The Kiger will soon be Renault’s fourth model on the Indian market, next to the Kwid, Triber and Duster. In the Netherlands, you probably do not have to expect the compact crossover, although Renault says that the Kiger will eventually also be sold outside of India.
