Renault has pulled the curtain on a completely new, compact crossover. We welcome: the Kiger, a small long legged one that is technically related to the Kwid.
Renault is expanding its international model range with the Kiger, a compact crossover that is the first to be launched in India. The Kiger is the production version of the Kiger Concept presented in November last year. As expected, Renault remains quite faithful to the design of that concept car.
Renault Kiger Concept
The Kiger uses the modular CMF-A platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. That platform is already covered by cars like the Renault Kwid and the Triber, another Renault that is not sold in Europe. The electric Dacia Spring that is coming to the Netherlands this year is on an electric version of that CMF-A platform. The Kiger is 3.99 meters long, which is particularly interesting for the Indian market. Cars shorter than four meters are taxed less heavily in India than larger cars. The wheelbase of the Kiger is 2.5 meters. In the appearance of the Kiger we observe design influences from both the Kwid and the Captur, which is well known here. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 405 liters, which is certainly not scant for a car of this size. If you throw the back seat flat, you can stow 879 liters of stuff. Depending on the chosen version, LED headlights and LED daytime running lights are available. Renault mounts LED rear lights on the back of the compact crossover.
The interior of the Renault Kiger certainly looks good for a car in this class. The Kiger will include an 8-inch large display that belongs to the infotainment system. Behind the wheel is a 7-inch large digital instrumentation. On the engine list, Renault puts a 100 hp and 160 Nm strong blown 1.0-liter three-cylinder, an engine that gets a 72 hp and 96 Nm powerful turbo-free 1.0 as a brother. Six airbags are standard and that is certainly not self-evident in India.
Renault says it will later also sell the Kiger outside of India. Renault tells Techzle that the brand will later announce about the other countries where the car will be sold.
