It’s time for an all-new Renault Mégane! It is 100 percent electric and looks different than before. The Mégane E-Tech Electric will be shown to the press today at the IAA auto show in Munich. Starting tomorrow, the public can come and see the hatchback there. Let’s take a look at the numbers first.

Technical specifications

The Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric will be available with a 40 kWh battery pack that will reach a maximum of 300 km in the WLTP cycle. In addition, a 60 kWh version with a range of up to 470 km will be released. Remarkably, Renault has opted for lithium-ion NMC (nickel, manganese, cobalt) batteries for a higher capacity. Charging is possible at all alternating current (AC) charging points; you can charge even the largest battery pack up to 300 km in half an hour at a 130 kW fast charging station.

You can also choose from two electric motors. One delivers a maximum of 96 kW / 130 hp power and 250 Nm of torque, the other 160 kW / 218 hp and 300 Nm. With the latter you can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. No rare metals were used for the engine. The regenerative braking system provides motorists with four levels of braking energy recovery. The power management system uses the navigation system for more efficient power consumption. Furthermore, the electric Mégane has a separate water pump for heating, ventilation and air conditioning of the cabin.

Appearance and Equipment

To further reduce power consumption, the Mégane E-Tech Electric has been designed as streamlined as possible. The car is only 1.50 meters high. In addition, Renault participates in the fashion to grow hatchbacks to other body styles. With a total length of 4.21 meters, the wheelbase is 2.7 meters. The sloping roofline and wide track evoke associations with a coupé. The decoration, however, is that of an SUV crossover. Just look at the 20-inch wheels, the high waistline and the protective strips along the bottom of the body. The electric Mégane E-Tech offers trunk space of at least 440 liters.

In the cab, the huge OpenR display stands out. That’s a digital instrument panel and multimedia interface in one. The OpenR Link infotainment system was developed in collaboration with Google and based on the well-known Android operating system. Access to Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play store are the main pillars. More than 25 assistance systems are available for driving, parking and safety.
