New generation of electric vehicles is coming
Renault Mégane eVision showcar
With the showcar Renault Mégane eVision we get to see a preview of it the new generation of electric cars that the brand has in store. We can already expect the first production model next year.
The Renault Mégane eVision showcar does not necessarily have anything to do with the current Mégane. Earlier it shows its successor. The concept car is a compact hatchback (4.21 meters) “with the space of a C-segment car”. A bit smaller than the Megane that we know, but with ‘a range of space and possibilities for use […] which are not inferior to cars from the C-segment, which are traditionally 15 to 30 centimeters longer ‘. So a practical car with lots of interior space, especially for city use.
CMF-EV platform
Still, the dimensions and proportions are not the main features of the showcar. The eVision is in fact on the completely new platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. The name CMF-EV says it all: this modular base plate for compact models has been specially developed for electric vehicles – the next generation of EVs. According to Renault, the platform solves the bottlenecks of the current generation of electric cars.
The battery pack is placed under the floor, which gives a lower center of gravity for better driving dynamics. The adjustments in wheelbase, steering ratio and rear axle will also be due to better maneuverability and greater comfort. The 60 kWh battery is smaller anyway, leaving more interior space. The battery can be charged ‘ultra-fast’ with a DC charger up to 130 kW. The range will also increase. Figures are unfortunately still missing.
The production model based on the Mégane eVision – to be unveiled next year – will have a 160 kW electric motor (the equivalent of 217 hp) and 300 Nm of pulling power. In less than 8 seconds, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h. Dág Mégane!
