Renault suspends Russian production again

At the beginning of this week, Renault seemed to restart production in Russia, but now everything is shut down again. Groupe Renault also wonders aloud what to do with AvtoVAZ, the parent company of Lada.

Renault was forced to suspend production in Russia shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but earlier this week things seemed to be able to continue. However, the French company is now coming back to that. As of Wednesday, ‘all activities have been shut down’ at the Moscow factory. No reason is given, but no doubt it has to do with the international sanctions against Russia. At the end of February, Renault also stopped working in Russia because of ‘the difficult delivery of parts due to stricter border controls’.

However, now Renault seems to be scrutinizing its entire presence in the country, because it also states in a statement that it is also investigating what to do with AvtoVAZ. “Renault Group is exploring the various options available with its stake in AvtoVAZ, given the current circumstances. It is responsible for dealing with its 45,000 employees in Russia.” AvtoVAZ is the parent company of Lada and Renault has had a majority stake in it since 2016.
